What the E24 error means
On Bosch dishwashers, E24 means the water is not draining or is draining too slowly. The control board expects the tub to empty within a set time; when it doesn't, it throws E24 and stops the cycle. It's closely related to two other codes we see:
- E24 water can't drain (blockage or a restricted pump/hose) our most common code, seen 31 times.
- E25 the drain pump itself is blocked or the pump cover is loose seen 6 times.
- E15 water reached the anti-flood base tray and the safety float tripped seen 11 times.
All three are in the same family (water where it shouldn't be), which is why an ignored E24 can eventually turn into an E15 flood-protection lockout.
Common causes we actually see
When we clear an E24, here's what's usually behind it:
- Clogged filter and sump. Food debris and grease choke the filter basket at the bottom of the tub the most frequent and easiest cause.
- Blocked or kinked drain hose. The hose to the disposal or air gap is clogged, pinched, or looped wrong.
- Clogged air gap or garbage disposal. If your disposal was recently replaced, the knockout plug may never have been removed.
- Failed or jammed drain pump. A shard of glass, a seed, or a worn motor stops the pump. Bosch part 00631200 / 631200 is the dishwasher part we replace more than any other.
- Debris under the pump cover. A loose or gunked-up pump cover restricts flow (this one often shows as E25).
How the repair usually goes

- Inspect the pump cover and impeller for glass, debris, or a jam.
- Test the drain pump for continuity and free rotation; replace it if it's seized or dead.
- Check the drain hose, high loop, air gap, and disposal knockout.
